Below you’ll find our most frequently asked questions, as well as pricing information. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to email us at info@playfulpomskies.com.
- How much do pomskies cost?
Pomsky puppies generally range from $1,600-$3,000 pet price. This is due to how much extra costs, such as genetic health testing, and care go into this breed to provide a healthy puppy. We will price each pup at about 4 weeks once their eyes are open.
Puppies with blues eyes, husky markings, rare colors and/or smaller sizes will be priced on the higher end of this range. - What does the puppy cost include?
All of our pups come with the DNA genetic testing done for both the Mom and Dad, ensuring they are clear of all breed specific genetic testing currently done by Embark. As we are confident in the health of our pups, we include a 2 year health guarantee as long as you actively carry pet insurance for the pup without gaps in coverage. Each puppy will have a health exam, first set of puppy vaccines, microchipped, de-wormed and have had a clear fecal test. To help our puppies adjust to their new home, we also send them with a puppy care package!
- What if I don’t live close? Can you fly my puppy to me?
We live in the Dallas-Fort Worth Texas area, and are happy to deliver pups to a place near their new family for no extra charge within a 2-hour drive from our home.
Don’t live nearby? No problem! We work with some wonderful pet flight nanny companies to arrange flying your pet to you anywhere in the continental U.S. There is an additional cost for this, usually ranging from $400-$600. We do try to fly the pups ourselves whenever possible, but there are times when we cannot, so then use the trusted flight nannies.
Due to safety risks, we do not ‘ship’ our pups. - How does your waitlist work?
Fill out an application here or click on the application tab on our site. Fill it out and submit it, or copy/paste it and email it to us at info@playfulpomskies.com. Once we have gone over your application and approved you (we do not approve everyone, as we want it to be the best fit not just for the families but also our pups), we will send you an invoice so you can place the $500 deposit. We use Stripe or GoodDog for secure online payment processing, and they accept most major credit or debit cards, as well as most major wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc). If you’re nearby, cash is always welcome, too.
Once you’ve been approved and deposit is received, you will be put on the list in the next available position. For example, if three people paid their deposit before you, you would be put as fourth on the list. When a new litter is born – at about 4 weeks when their eyes are open, the first person on the list gets to select their pup. Then remaining pups go to the next on the list, and so forth. You may choose to skip up to the next litter as many times as you need to find the right pup for you. We reserve the right to keep any puppies for our program, and may take our pick(s) before the list begins choosing.
Deposits are non-refundable, and do go towards the final price of your puppy. Please note: a 2.9% + $0.30 charge will be added to your deposit invoice to cover the card processing fees. - When is payment due?
Your deposit of $500 is due to be put on our waitlist. At about 4 weeks when we do puppy selections, half the final fee is due (along with the $500 deposit if you weren’t already on our waitlist) The remaining payment is due in full at delivery/pickup if cash, or 1 week prior to delivery/pickup if electronically. If final payment is not made, you forfeit your puppy and deposit. Please know this is to protect ourselves and our business, as sadly there are untrustworthy people out there.
- Do you offer financing?
We offer the Terrace Pets payment solution for customers who wish to pay over time for their purchase. All credit profiles are considered and welcome.
Your application gets routed through the Terrace Finance network of lenders/lessors which works to find you a program compatible with your credit profile and needs. We will provide the link to this once your puppy application has been approved.
- How do you breed a husky and a pomeranian?
Breedings for an F1 (first generation) pomsky are done through artificial insemination between a Husky female and a Pomeranian male.
- How long is a wait for one of your puppies?
While we cannot make guarantees on a strict timeline due to varying litter sizes, a female’s breeding may not take, etc. we will guarantee you a puppy within 12 months of your deposit date, or you will receive a full refund of your deposit. This only applies if you did not choose to skip a litter.
- How big do pomskies get?
Coming from two very different sized breeds, pomskies can vary greatly in size. The typical size of many pomskies are about 15-30 pounds, but they range from roughly 7-40 pounds as adults. We cannot guarantee size, as there’s always a chance of a genetic throwback which may cause a pup from a litter to weigh under or over the expected range.
- Do pomskies have health problems?
As with any breed, there are possible genetic health issues. This is why we do genetic testing on all of our breeding dogs to ensure our pups are as healthy as possible. Our main goal with our program is to breed healthy, well-tempered family dogs. We’re confident of our testing and care, and all of our puppies come with a 2 year health guarantee. To keep the guarantee active, we do require you to actively carry pet insurance for the pup without gaps in coverage, as well as an update every 6 months during those 2 years to ensure we are aware of any health issues and can address them promptly. You can see more about our health guarantee here.
- What if we want to breed our pup?
- Why are pomskies a great family pet?
Pomskies are wonderful for families, as they often have that spunky husky personality, along with lots of affectionate, loving behavior. As with all breeds, personalities can vary and the pup needs to be trained and treated well to be a good family pet. They don’t get as large as huskies, making it easier to provide the room they need to roam and play.
Pomskies are very intelligent and easy to train. If raised right, they are wonderful with kids of all ages, becoming a long-time companion for the whole family. - What IS a pomsky?
A pomsky is a combination of a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian, bred through artificial insemination. Since these two main breeds vary quite a bit, so can the physical appearance of a pomsky. Many aim for a look that is similar to a Husky, though smaller, while others prefer the Pomeranian colorings. There are a few other approved breeds that may be mixed in, such as American Eskimo, but we stick stricly to only breeds approved by the American Pomsky Kennel Club.
- What is a Guardian Home?
Guardian Homes are when we have a dog in our program that would do best in a family home outside of ours. This allows the right family to enjoy having a free pomsky in their family, while the pup would still be a part of our program. You can learn more about our Guardian Home program here.
- Why are your dogs not AKC registered?
Because the pomsky is a mix of two breeds and does not have the length of history required to become an AKC breed, it is not yet considered a purebred. Be careful of any pomsky breeder that guarantees their pups are AKC registered, because that is a scam as the AKC does not yet recognize this breed. Several of us in the pomsky community are working hard to get them as a recognized breed! Please note: the AKC (American Kennel Club) is different than the APKC (American Pomsky Kennel Club – of which we are an approved breeder)
- How do I tell if a breeder is a scam or not?
A few ways to ensure you find a responsible breeder who will provide a healthy, well-bred pomsky puppy is to avoid scams or puppy mills. Watch out for pricing that seems a good amount lower than many others – if it’s too good to be true, it probably is. You can ask a breeder to video call you with the pup, send a video with them and the pup saying something specific you asked for, or provide photos with a message written on it to prove they actually have the pup and are a valid breeder. It’s also wise to check in reliable pomsky/breeder groups on Facebook, especially those that require any breeders in their group to have proof of genetic health testing for their dogs.
- When can I bring my puppy home?
Puppies are old enough to leave their mom and litter mates at 8 weeks. We will not send puppies home before they reach this age.
- What does F1, F2, F1b, F2x, etc. mean?
